Fix Your Eyes Upon Jesus: The Light of the World – Our Light of Life

Here in the Midwest we seasonally have days and weeks of solid clouds.  Blanket clouds that make our world grey, dull, cold and dreary.  Many people suffer with a condition called seasonal depression disorder.  Our bodies seem to crave light.  People have an emotional reaction to color and vibrancy in our surroundings.  It even plays into choosing paint colors for the walls of your homes and offices and shopping centers.

Our emotions tend to follow where are eyes are fixed.  Our eyes go where our mind is fixed.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12 ESV)

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.  You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor   do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13-16 ESV)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13 ESV)

We have a God of hope who fills us with joy and peace by the power of His Holy Spirit so that we can shine a light (that comes from Him) into this world that pierces through the darkness and draws others to Jesus Christ.

So I pray that today, regardless of your circumstances you are allowing God to fill you with His Holy Spirit so that you can do all things without complaining or grumbling, but rather be that bright spot in an otherwise gloomy world around you.  Fill the places you go with the joy of the Lord that is in you.  Speak peace and life to others.  Demonstrate what it looks like to walk in complete trust of the one true God who is creator, sustainer, and sovereign over all things.

Start your day at the throne of God submitted to His will for you today.  Ask Him to fill you with His power and His Spirit.  Ask Him to gently reveal any sin in your life and to forgive you for it.  Ask that He will give you wisdom and compassion for others so that your life may bring glory to Him.  And then trust that He will do all those things.  Walk in victory.

Remember that it is when we are weak that the power of God is most evident in our lives.  Our great God is able to do more than we can even imagine.  He created you for His good purposes.  So open up His Word today.  Learn about who you are in what He says about you and learn about who He isAlmighty, Trustworthy, True, Righteous, Loving, Filled with Grace and Mercy, Eternal, Holy, Just, Patient, Purposeful, Orderly, Father, Spirit, Son.

We daily have a choice:  either serve our flesh or walk by the power of God’s Holy Spirit in obedience to our creator.  You were created to be a light unto this world.  Choosing to live selfishly causes the salt to lose its saltiness.  Take up your cross beloved.  Give yourself grace and accept God’s forgiveness when you miss the mark.  Today is a new day and His mercies are new every morning.

Every day, people are dying without the saving grace of the blood of Jesus.  Every day multitudes are suffering in the dark, dreariness of this world.  We have much work to do.  The time is short and the harvest is ripe.  Ask God for your daily marching orders.  Be willing to be poured out as a living sacrifice.  Store up your treasure in heaven.  You only have this one life to live.  What legacy are you leaving behind, what treasure are you sending ahead?  Be encouraged.  God is with you and He is able.  Press on!

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every  morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV)
