Be Wise and Know The Schemes of the Devil

Let us begin with the reminder from God’s word that,

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. (1 John 4:4 ESV)

Praise God for His great promises!  Praise God for His sovereignty!  Praise God for His almighty power!

We are His.  We are from Him.  He lives in us!

Knowing all of this, we are not to be taken by surprise when the evil one wants to destroy us or at least make our work ineffective for God’s kingdom.

Study the scriptures.  Examine your life.  You will quickly find the ways of Satan and how he works against us.  He is a busy one.  He is a liar and deceiver.  He comes neatly wrapped up in a nice looking package.  He falsely pretends to be God.  He speaks discouragement and twisted scriptures into the ears of those who are walking in God’s ways.

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. (1 Peter 5:8-9 ESV)

But He gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:6-8 ESV)

Don’t let him steal your joy!  Command him to flee in Jesus’ name.  He has no authority over us.  His time is drawing to a close.  He has already lost.

Stand firm, beloved.  Do not be shaken.  God is with you.  Put your armor on!

The Whole Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (Ephesians 6:10-13 ESV)

Remember that it isn’t the enemy that you see who is against you.  It is the evil one.  He would love to tear apart our families and our churches.  Do not allow him to use you for his dark purposes.

Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs. (2 Corinthians 2:10-11 ESV)

Beloved, we must walk in God’s ways especially when being attacked.  Satan only has authority over what God grants to him.  He is still very much under God’s control.  Be the light into this world.  Those who don’t know Jesus are weak in the devil’s sight and vulnerable to deception.  We need to share the gospel truth with all who will listen.  Stand firm in your faith.  Jesus has overcome.  Be encouraged.  Press on!
