Be the Light: God’s Light Reflected in Us is a Beacon of Hope to the Dark World

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. (Colossians 4:5-6 ESV)

I just want to remind (myself) you that in the darkness of this World, God has chosen you, created you, purposed you, to be His light reflectors.  How are you doing with that?

When you see the political decisions that do not glorify God, how are you speaking about them?

When you hear of more violence and bloodshed in the name of false gods, do you pray for them?

God wants us to fight evil with good.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:14-21 ESV)

Oh, how I love me some Romans chapter 12!  Walk in wisdom beloved.  Live in harmony with one another.  Overcome evil with good.  Stand firmly on God’s truth.  Share the gospel.  Do NOT shrink back.  Shine God’s light. (Remember that song…this little light of mine?)

Maybe instead of fearful complaining about the condition of our world, we might try joyfully proclaiming the freedom we have in Christ and the good news of the gospel.  Let us walk each day in thanks giving to God.  This world needs a good heaping dose of God’s hope, and we are supposed to be the ones to whom they come because they see that hope in us.  Be ready with your answer.  Speak graciously.  Tell them about Jesus and God’s plan for this world and eternity.

Go be a blessing to someone today.  Be encouraged.  God is on His throne.  He is sovereign.  Press on.
