So How Are You Doing? Where is Your Heart? Trusting in God or In _______

… but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:18-21 ESV)

I have been watching as God has called us to do.  Watching what is going on in the world.  Not with anxiety, but with anticipation of what God is allowing, even directing, in this fallen world.  God’s word tell us to pay attention.  When we know who He is and what His plans are, as He has revealed them in His Word, we can be ready for the trouble to come and not be caught by surprise.

Our world’s financial system is in disarray.  Google it, I dare you.  The middle east has been in accelerated unrest for many months now.  World governments have changed hands and shifted stances.  And don’t even get us started on the electoral process in the United States and our national debt.  The legal protections for freedom of religion are being eroded away.  And we in America are in our third generation of unchurched citizens.

I and others have been praying that God will revive His people.  That His Holy Spirit will set us on fire for His great purposes to spread the gospel while there is yet time.  I pray also that God will be changing hearts and renewing minds to those things that are of eternal value and not worldly riches….because as we all will soon experience, worldly riches are an empty temporary deception. Do not fear.  God will provide all that you need.

What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.  Yes, and I will rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. (Philippians 1:18-22 ESV)

Beloved, place your hope and your trust in God aloneTrust Him because He alone is trustworthy!

Seek first His kingdom.  Be generous with your time and your resources in the name of Jesus Christ.  Know who God is.  Let your labor be fruitful.  Share the gospel of good news – the salvation offered by Jesus – to those who don’t know Him.  Spend yourself in building God’s kingdom by answering the call He has placed on your life, rather than chasing after the wind.  None of us is promised tomorrow.  God has prepared good works in advance that you should walk in them.  He alone knows the path you should take.  He alone knows what is coming upon this world and when.  He has graciously revealed enough to guide His children in the ways everlasting.  Seek Him.  Follow Him.  Be encouraged today.  He is with you.  Press on!  Come Lord Jesus!

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Matthew 6:28-33 ESV)
