Revival

This Sunday our church will launch a two week revival.  We’ve been making preparations and plans for this event for a few months now.  We’ve also been in prayer seeking God’s presence and asking Him to start the revival with me (each of us individually).  Revive my spirit Lord.  Life Action Blue team will be spending the two weeks with us as they minister to us and help us seek the Lord.  A few of the team members have been at our church with Life Action in the past, and we are excited to see them again and to hear all that the Lord has been doing in their lives.

As excited as we are for the revival to begin, I am even more hopeful in anticipation of what God is about to do in our midst.  Preparing for revival is an intentional process.  I have had to seek humility, as it does NOT come naturally to me.  I want to humble myself before the Lord (so that He won’t have to humble me).  It is in that most humble state that I can fully submit my life to Him and to the work that He wants to do in me and through me.  Because it isn’t about me, it is about glorifying God and building His kingdom.  It is about truth, grace, love and the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It is about eternity.

Our leadership team and several members of our congregation are just returning from 10 days in Israel.  Two of our members will be married in our church this Saturday night.  God has been preparing hearts for His movement in our body of believers.  You can just feel it in the air.

Our pastor has selected Romans 12:2 as our theme focus for this year of ministry.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2 ESV)

He has been preaching on marriage and how we can honor God with our marriages.  We’ve discussed what it means to not be conformed to this world but to allow God to transform our lives.  We’ve discussed what it means to be washed by His word.  And on Saturday, we’ll witness a pure example of marriage and wedding vows just hours before we being the revival.   Committing before God and witnesses to be faithful.

He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. (Psalm 25:9-10 ESV)

Lord, help us keep your covenant and testimonies.  Help us to live according to Your ways and not be conformed to this world.  Help us to walk humbly with you.  We want to know more of You Lord.  Fill us with Your Holy Spirit.  Show us the sinful ways within us so that we can repent.  We are waiting on You Lord.  Amen.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. (Proverbs 11:2 ESV)

You don’t need a revival team in order for God to revive your heart and spirit.  You just need to seek Him, humbling yourself before Him.  He will hear you and will answer your prayers for revival.  Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you.

Be encouraged.  Press on.

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. (James 4:6-10 ESV)
