My aunt just shared a picture on facebook that read:
“Since it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. ~ C.S. Lewis”
Such deep truth. This world is filled with good and evil. But greater is He who is in me, than he who is in the world. Children need to know this – we have a hero and His name is Jesus. Adults need to know this. Good wins. Jesus wins.
Watching that young girl in Philadelphia, Carlesha, get abducted right off the streets the other day, was just chilling. I know things like that happen frequently. There are people who seek to harm others. I praise God that she was found alive and returned to her family. I hope they know Him who saves. The news stories always seem so incomplete to me when they leave Jesus out of the picture.
Courage comes from God. He tells us over and over to take courage. He knew that it was so likely that we will meet cruel enemies. Enemies of our faith. Enemies of our hearts. Enemies of our souls. Jesus faced many enemies. He faced Satan himself on many occasions. He was strengthened by God to withstand the attacks. He conquers His enemy in the end! He is my hero.
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 ESV)
God has called His children to battle. He has called us to build His kingdom and to share the good news of Jesus Christ with all who have ears to hear. Satan doesn’t like this and is firmly and actively against the work of God in all ways. It is a spiritual battle. God has given us a spirit of power not a spirit of fear. He needs us to walk through this life as brave knights and to take His heroic courage in whatever circumstances come our way.
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. (1 Corinthians 16:13-14 ESV)
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:6-7 ESV)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. (Ephesians 6:12-13 ESV)
I hope you have at least heard of brave knights and heroic courage, but more than that, I hope you have heard about Jesus Christ – King of Kings and Lord of Lords. With Him we can stand against evil.
God is with you. Stand firm and take courage. Say yes to the Lord’s call on your life. Step out in faith.
Be encouraged. Press on.
