Growing in the Knowledge of God

I hope that my walk with Christ never ceases to change me.

The only way that I am able to know God better is to seek Him in prayer, study His Word, and spend time with Him.

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:9-10 ESV)

I thank God daily for His grace and mercies in my life.  Without Jesus Christ we are unable to approach God the Father with all confidence.  We have the great privilege of speaking directly to Him.  Because of the blood of Jesus, which is the cost of our sins (covers our sins), we are able to be in God’s Holy presence; in the presence of the creator of the universe and all that is in it.

You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. (2 Peter 3:17-18 ESV)

It is through many hours of prayer and searching the scriptures that we come to know who God is.  On this path of knowledge comes salvation through faith in Jesus Christ by the grace of God.  When we humbly seek the truth we find that God is the truth.  The only truth.  The one absolute.  Never changing.  Always love.

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. (Ephesians 4:11-16 ESV)

When God reveals Himself to us in His Holy Word, we gain knowledge.  We become wise when we apply God’s knowledge to our lives.  This is the path to personal growth, change and a deeper relationship with God the Father.  If we desire to know God better and to obey Him, we must know His Word.  There is no substitute.  God’s word is eternal, infinite, and life changing.

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (John 15:7 ESV)

He loves us enough to give us His Holy Spirit to help us understand and live out His will.  His Word reveals His will for our lives.

Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for laying down Your life for me so that I may know God the Father so intimately.  Help me Lord to remain in Your word, so that as You have promised, You will remain in me.  I want to know You better Lord.  Draw me close to you today.  Open up Your Word to my heart so that I may understand and be equipped for all that You desire of me.  Use it to renew my mind.  Help me to grow in grace and in knowledge of You.  Thank You for loving me.  Amen.

Open up God’s Word.  Seek Him.  Follow Him.

Be encouraged.  God isn’t done with you yet!  Press on.
