We’ve had a few irritations around our house lately. Nothing major, just those pesky minor things that when piled up together bring out the worst in you. Today I just never seemed to be able to shake it. My small headache turned into a splitting headache. My back/side ache just intensified no matter what I tried. My husband found chiggers the other night and is beside himself with itching. And the long weekend looms before us. This is our chance to relax and have some fun as a family! Oh joy!
All in all, life is good and we really have nothing to complain about at all. As a matter of fact I can certainly count more blessings than itches and aches, so why does my mind so easily focus on the bad rather than the good? Because we are pleasure seekers that is why! At our core we all desire to feel good and take the easy road. But God loves us too much to leave us there!
Paying attention to the pain in life generally helps us avoid bigger problems. God’s word tells us that these are temporary trials. Life has a way of testing our faith. We either grow closer to God in it or we crumble. And some days we just need to persevere under it all. Be still and know that He is God. God is good, and He loves us. Remind yourself who you are in Christ Jesus and review the promises of God for His beloved children. Clear your schedule and be still. Breathe in His peace and breathe out your praise. God is working things out for your good and the good of all involved.
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.(Matthew 7:24-25 ESV)
Some days we just need the hope that tomorrow will be better. God is always with us. This is not our eternal home. The rain will fall, the floods will come, the winds will blow, but Jesus Christ is our foundation – our anchor in the storms of life.
Look around and see who needs a hug from you today or a word of encouragement. Even in our trials we can still be a blessing to those closest to us when we have our eyes on our heavenly Father.
Each of us has some thorn in our side to keep us humble, but not to cripple our witness. Allow God to work through your mess. Make it His message of hope to others who are struggling and hurting too. We have a Savior who knows suffering and ministers to each of us in the midst of it. Let Him.
Rest in the fact that you are dearly loved. Hope that tomorrow will bring relief, and keep His peace and joy in your heart. God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.
Don’t allow the small irritations of life render your witness for Jesus Christ ineffective. Fight the good fight.
Be encouraged. Press on. God wins!
