The Son is Shining – Comfort in Times of Trial

It is a gray, damp, cold March day.  I know the sun is shining brightly beyond these clouds, but I just can’t see it.  My daughter says that these are the best days to take pictures because the light of the sun is diffused nicely – no harsh shadows.

I’m going to head out for a 4 mile walk here shortly.  I’ll take my camera with me to capture some of these early spring flowers pressing up just through the dirt; God’s fulfilled promise of renewal and new life.

His creation sings of His glory.  The birds are chirping and singing.  The grass is just starting to show patches of green through the tan, honey colored dead grass of winter.  The temperatures are warming up just enough to make going outside not quite as unpleasant as it was a few weeks ago.

This is the day that the Lord has made,

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

As I lifted up many people this morning in my prayers, I was also praising God for all that he has been doing in their lives.  So many who are suffering with physical trials.  So many who have lost loved ones.  So many suffering through tragedies of lost planes and mud slides.  Where are their loved ones Lord?  Only God’s peace and comfort, combined with the hope of salvation and eternal life, offer light into this darkness.  God works all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.  ALL THINGS.  Resting in His will is difficult when you are suffering.  Remember that our Lord Jesus Christ chose to suffer for us – to the point of sweating blood.  We have not yet suffered like He did.  He understands suffering and will offer us comfort and peace in the midst of our suffering when we draw near to Him.

This is the day that the Lord has made,

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

I pray that you will see the joy in today, whether your sky is cloudy, or whether the sun is shining brightly.  Shadows or no shadows, God’s Son is with you.  Bidden or unbidden, God is present.  Call upon His name.  Lift up your praises to Him.  He will draw near to you and give you peace.

Be encouraged.  Press on.
