But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female. ’‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Mark 10:6-9
Rather than argue about what marriage is not, Christians should be spending their energy and resources to demonstrate to others what God’s creation of marriage is all about. Our marriages should be real, authentic, life-long, God centered, full of love and forgiveness, iron sharpening iron, beacons of God’s blessing and reflections of His plan – The church is the bride of Christ.
My parents just celebrated their 49th anniversary! I am blessed to have them both still in my life and still loving and supporting each other. They have raised three children, have 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grand child, they have grown old together. Their commitment to one another through difficult times has demonstrated to me that tough times are to be worked out and prayed through, not run from.
I am grateful for their example. May my marriage last a lifetime with hard work, forgiveness, abundant love, selfless service, lots of laughter, and many adventures. May God be well pleased and honored by our marriages. May we offer truth, hope and possibility to the next generation that God’s ways are the best ways. Be encouraged. Press on.
