But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. (Romans 6:17-18 ESV)
Not that in this life we are no longer going to sin (and repent, Lord forgive us), but rather that we are no longer enslaved by sin. Praise God. Here is a link to a site that lists five Biblical areas of life that demonstrate our love for God.
- Obedience to the Holy Word (the rest are truly #1 as well)
- Putting God first
- Loving our Brothers
- Tell others about God
- Love God with all that we are (mind, heart, soul, strength)
This next website has compiled a list of the commands of God in the New Testament (warning: this can be overwhelming if you are not walking under God’s grace). Loving God = Obeying God = Keeping His Commandments (not legalism but loving obedience; we are not under the law but under the grace of God). These are our goals set by God for us to strive toward; not perfectly, but increasingly. With the help of God’s Holy Spirit, God will change our hearts and our lives for His glory.
Thank you Lord, that I am no longer a slave to sin. Strengthen me so that I may press on to know more of You. Thank you Lord for Your abundant grace that I am alive with You. Amen.
